Virtu Ferries cancels Friday’s Sicily trips due to ‘unfavourable sea conditions’
Malta is expecting gale-force winds this weekend.

Malta-Sicily catamaran operator Virtu Ferries has just announced that it is cancelling all of its trips scheduled to take place this coming Friday, 18th March.

This comes as weather forecasts warn readers of heavy rain and gale-force winds set to impact the islands this weekend.

“Please note that, on Friday 18th March, all voyages are cancelled due to unfavourable sea conditions,” Virtu Ferries wrote on social media.

The Malta Weather Facebook page yesterday noted that this adverse weather is caused by “the contrast between an unseasonably strong wintry anticyclone over Northern Europe and a heat low-pressure system over Nothern Africa.”

Virtu Ferries said that today’s trip from Pozzallo to Malta (VR101) will depart earlier, at 6pm, to avoid the rough weather expected later on.

As of yet, the company’s scheduled trips for Saturday and Sunday are set to go ahead as usual.
