Mgarr Gozo

While Gozo is a lovely place to stay, most visitors go just for the day. But, despite its small size, there may be too much to see and do in a single day! While good food is always a priority, spending hours at a lunch table may not be feasible. Here are a few suggestions for delish eateries around the island which offer something unique and special for a bite on-the-go.

Black Cat, Victoria

If TripAdvisor reviews are anything to go by, a trip to Gozo is not complete without visiting the Black Cat! Indeed, this cosy cafe with an intimate atmosphere that’s in-keeping with the Gozitan vibe is rated a top place for a warm drink and food in the capital, whether you're eating in or taking out. The cafe offers a variety of European dishes including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.

Xerri il-Bukkett, Qala

Close to the ferry terminal, and also offering take-away, Xerri il-Bukkett, however, is a place where you’ll likely want to enjoy a pause - the views overlooking Malta and Comino are just amazing. Grab a quick pizza or stop for a moment and choose from a varied menu that includes Mediterranean, European and international cuisines with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Expect friendly service and incredible value for money from this family-run affair.

Mekren Bakery (& Maxokk), Nadur

On your way to Gozo's prettiest beaches, grab an authentic taste of Gozo on-the-go from an authentic bakery. Pick your choice of Gozitan ftira - a traditional pizza made with bread dough, thinly sliced potatoes, onions and a selection of Mediterranean ingredients. Or try a traditional Gozitan cheese pie, or pumpkin and rice pie! Mekren is a true taste of Gozo, a taste you can also enjoy another bakery, in Nadur, known as Maxokk. These snacks are delicious, hot or cold - ideal if you’re out exploring all day!

Waterfront, Marsalforn

Sit, relax and enjoy the pretty sea view in Marsalforn at the Waterfront. This pub and restaurant offers pizza, pasta and grilled food as well as seafood, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, so there is really something for everyone’s taste! It also has a flexible price range and offers good value for money. Plus, you can opt for take away!

The Diamond, Xlendi

Good morning from beautiful Xlendi. A tad windy today but still nice and warm Fish and chips cod or Haddock All day and every day except Sundays.

Go British at the Diamond Bar, a typical British pub that offers English breakfast, fish & chips and pies with mushy peas...as well as pizza! In fact, the home-cooked menu is quite varied and also caters for vegetarians, vegans and gluten free diets. The friendly little bar and restaurant also sits with a view of Xlendi Bay.
