The Immaculate Conception titular altarpiece at the Jesuits' Church is fully restored
The altarpiece is 372 years old!

The Jesuits’ Church Foundation has taken to social media to announce that the titular altarpiece of the Immaculate Conception has been fully restored to its former glory.

The impressive work that was carried out by Prevarti Limited and funded by the Archdiocese of Malta, has now been reinstalled for all to appreciate at the Oratory of the Immacolata at the Jesuits' Church, Valletta!

“The Immocolata is in place”, the Jesuits’ Church Foundation captioned a photo of the altarpiece being put in place.

The altarpiece was originally painted by the artist Filippino Dingli over 370 years ago!

It urgently needed care and restoration due to the deterioration of some of the varnish that was making several corrections originally made by Filippino Dingli quite visible.

As can be seen from the photos, the painting shows the Virgin Mary as a woman in the Apocalypse with the Holy Spirit and God above here. Surrounding her are fifteen putti holding flowers symbolic of the Virgin's purity and glory.
