Swimmer Sasha Gatt concludes Tokyo 2020 Olympics experience ‘with pride and humility’
She’s got a promising future ahead.

Earlier this week, 16-year-old Maltese swimmer Sasha Gatt concluded her commendable stint at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Coming in at third place in her 1,500-metre freestyle heat with a time of 16:54:47 – just four seconds off the national record the swimmer herself set weeks before at the LEN European Junior Swimming Championships – Sasha also participated in the 400-metre heats, in which she finished sixth with a time of 4:19.78.

Taking to social media to mark the occasion, the promising swimmer wrote “I had higher expectations for myself, but one cannot always register personal bests and National Records and I have to accept that.”

“Instead, I will reflect on these past days to work on ways to keep improving and working harder,” she continued, looking ahead to what will undoubtedly be a bright future in the sport.

“Someone reminded me that I am now an Olympian. I wear the title with pride and humility and the determination to be better,” Sasha added.

Going on to thank the Maltese Olympic Committee, Aquatic Sports Association of Malta, Sirens Swimming, her coach Stan Ioan Catalin, her strength and conditioning coach Kirsty Caruana, coach Artem Goncharenko and her family and friends, the young swimmer concludes her Olympics experience with head held high.

And with a promising future ahead, we certainly think it’s just the first of many Olympic showings for the record-breaking Maltese swimmer. You go, girl!
