The Grandmaster's Palace was one of the first buildings in Valletta; it started out as the official residence of most Grand Masters and later became that of successive British Governors as well as the seat of the Office of the President of the Republic and the House of Parliament. The Palace houses one of the world’s greatest historic arms collections and ranks among the most valuable historic monuments of European culture.
