Kingsway Store, Valletta's iconic toy store has now officially closed its doors but the delightful memories it provided to the young generations it has served over the years will certainly live on.

Sharing bittersweet details of his time at the helm of the shop, owner Felix Rizzo revealed in a Times of Malta article that: "I still feel nostalgic for the shop. When I walk past it nowadays and see it boarded up I think to myself ‘Miskin il-Kingsway’, but like everything in life you have to know when it’s time to move on.”

Felix's family had acquired the shop in the early '70s - then operating under a different name, but it wasn't till the '90s that he started working there. The shop was sometimes referred to as the doll's hospital for its toy-repair services and was also the only licensed Subbuteo distributor in Malta.

The shop had been a landmark for not only locals; with international celebrities like footballer David Beckham and Gennaro Gattuse also paying the store a visit during their respective stays.

Thank you for the memories!

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
