Check this out! 1980s aerial shot shows a forgotten side of Xlendi
Xlendi remains one of Gozo's most popular seaside towns

An aerial photo of Xlendi, Gozo shot way back in 1987 goes to show just how different this spot looks nowadays – 36 years on.

In more ways than one, Xlendi’s pretty much unrecognisable in this image. For starters, no towering apartment blocks had taken over the area surrounding the bay.

Another major difference is the sandy bay which, back then, attracted hundreds of tourists and locals throughout the summer months.

The bay has since almost disappeared, with what’s left of it being used as a jet ski and kayak renting station.

Nowadays, anyone looking to have a quick dip at Xlendi Bay can only do so from the beach’s rocky parts.

Another extremely striking difference is the lack of restaurants and bars around the beach. Nowadays, said establishments have taken over the surrounding area.

Do you remember Xlendi looking like this?
